We should have learnt by now...

This post is dedicated to the lives lost during Phet.
The number of casualties in the newspaper is rising daily. We are now up to about 20 people who have lost their lives during the cyclone, many are still missing. Cheers to the authorities, who have handled the cyclone situation gracefully, warning people 72 hrs in advance, evacuating dangerous areas instantly, pumping out water on flooded roads by the hour. The Royal Oman Police is still guarding the safety of curious citizens in harbours, on bridges and flood-prone areas. Just yesterday Mutrah area was closed off for all traffic, because the waves at the harbour were too high to safely drive past.
Regardless the daily sms, newspaper warning and television reports- lives were still lost! Those who have perished in the cyclone were mostly adventurous young men, eager to take on the flooding, hungry Wadis, either by foot or in the 4x4. Which they shouldn't have done. And I hope this is a lesson for all of us, we shouldn't make an adventure out of a disasater...
